I am a guy in my fourties, my wife and I have two children.
This blog My Financial Shape documents our Journey toward Financial Independence by the end of 2024.
We want to to achieve that goal through
- a down to earth lifestyle with a strong focus on our savings rate and
- by establishing evergrowing Passive Income Stream sources such as dividend paying stocks, Peer to Peer – and Crowdlending investments and many other cash generting assets.
These investment revenues will cover our annual spendings of our family of four by the end of 2024. Well, that’s at least our plan to which we committed ourselves.
I have never been a big spender
I have always set a great focus on experiences and on being as independent as possible.
Money is energy, often traded against time and effort. Due to its “exchange value” it is much too valuable to be wasted. The consumerism mantra “one earns to spend” is a very tricky one.
Leaving the corporate treadmill
You cannot have a voluntary, independent life while drowning in debts and living from paycheck to paycheck. As long as you have to work hard for your money to make a living, you are stuck in a rat race and will never be free. You cannot rise to the top of your capabilities and pursue your dreams.

You must put yourself in a position – financially and mentally – in which you have options.
Investing in cash generating assets
We chose the path of a consequent down to earth lifestyle, consistently spending less than we earn from our day jobs.
Our savings enable us to invest in cash flow generating assets such as dividend growth stocks and to focus on establishing various passive income sources.
We love to have both, the benefits and satisfaction of being employees with stable salaries and on the other side to have the the perspective of dividend growth investors building a bullet proof investment portfolio.
So far, my wife and I have not yet pulled the trigger to jump into real estate investing. But buying our residential home and rental properties generating Passive Income Streams is an exciting goal to pursue.
We firmly believe that the process of building wealth through a down to earth life style makes us strong. And it can be fun.
Wealth gives us options, it serves as a buffer for rainy days and – invested wisely – money will begin to work for you instead of the other way around.
And over time, the Miracle of the Compound Effect plays out.
Purpose of this Personal Finance Blog
I write this blog for my readers and of course for myself. I hope to accomplish following things:
- Creating a personal journal which articulates our dreams, achievements, failures and changes we are experiencing.
- Being inspired and – hopefully – inspire others to improve one’s financial shape and achieve Financial Independence.
- Sharing dividend investing and passive income ideas.
